Chris Tooke is a leading specialist on political and regulatory risks in the emerging markets of the former Soviet region. He works for major clients – ranging from TMT, mining and oil & gas, to sovereign governments - to help them understand the political and operational environment in their target markets. He is an expert on Russian tech regulation and content control.
Recent work includes:
Advising a Fortune 500 tech company on engagement with the Russian communications regulator;
Analysing the political headwinds affecting a significant mining asset in the Caucasus region for a North American extractive company;
Providing remedial sanctions advice in conjunction with outside counsel for a major US manufacturer facing compliance breaches in Russia;
Advising a sovereign government on developments in the Russian oil & gas sector;.
Chris holds a doctorate in Russian literature from UCL/SSEES, where he also taught on undergraduate Russian language and culture courses. Prior to that he worked at The Economist Intelligence Unit, focusing on post-Soviet countries.
